More on Gastric Cancers

Filed under: Acid Reflux, Gastric Cancer — Administrator @ 11:25 pm

Diet is of course a factor in gastric or stomach cancer.

Avoid pickled vegetables, smoked meat and excessively salty food.
Processed meat products are another cause, with the hot dog being of obvious concern.
Charcoal broiled foods are known to produce nitrosamines which have also been linked to cancer.

The highest incidence of stomach cancer is in people who have a diet high in foods which are preserved by drying, salting, pickling or smoking.

People who have had gastric atrophy which weakens the stomach muscles are also at increased risk. Note that it also results in shrinkage of the peptic glands which in turn leads to a smaller amount of digestive juices.

I probably do not need to tell you that smoking is another link, as well as dust and workplace fumes.

H. pylori which causes stomach inflamation and ulcers has been shown in some studies to be a risk factor in stomach cancer.

Gastric or Stomach Cancer

Filed under: Gastric Cancer — Administrator @ 1:34 am

Gastric Cancer deaths in the united States have dropped considerably in the past 50 years however it is still a serious problem.

Asian countries have a much higher incidence of this disease particularly China, Korea and Japan.

Gastric or stomach cancer as it is also known, is difficult to cure usually because of late diagnosis, although Japan has introduced early screening.

Gastric cancer can occur in any part of the stomach before spreading along the stomach wall into the esophagus or small intestine

Other places to which it can spread are the liver, colon and pancreas.

The disease is more common in men than women, with a higher incidence among black people than whites.
